the great republican convention flee 2004
Look, I know we New Yorkers are supposed to be tough. I know we’re supposed to love the crowds, the noise, and the occasional naked protesters. We wade through the Blackout and the dusty post 9/11 air though until light filters through. We get down to the street level with our thick sunglasses and overpriced shoes and take pictures. We revel in that which makes our lives more complicated.
But I live in, quite literally, the ass of the Elephant. [See pop-up diagram.] My neighborhood looks like a police state; there are barricades lining every side street, billy-club-clad cops on every corner, and getting from here to the next sex-toy shop is becoming a problem. While nobody loves a good rough-and-tumble with authority more than me, this grand old party is going to sit this round out from a small New England beach town. I’m sure you’ll understand.
Check here for at-least daily snapshots, don't forget to look at last night's crooked pictures, and I'll be back in a week.
xxoo,
deb

Living in the ass of the elephant . . that is priceless! It kind of encapsulates how I've felt with the dynamic duo in office lo these long four years.

So many barricades on the way to work! Should have stayed home and surfed the net. Next time...

I had intended to leave Boston for the DNC, but had to work. Turned out that so many residents fled the city it was downright peaceful for those of us who stayed. Props, of course, to the planners and policemen too.
