knockin' the sweet boots

My friend Big A (though she’s quite tiny) used to work for a cowboy-type, from Texas. I hear he would eye her like she was a second helping of rib eye, but she ignored his advances, mostly. I never knew his name, we just called him “boots” after the Western kicks he wore always. One day she quit her job, and ever since then she’s been, in her words, “knockin’ the schweet boots.”

It’s kinda like my weekend in Texas…

A small preview:

  1. “Come see our rifles.”
  2. Justin, Texas where I purchased my sweet boots.
  3. One of the endless Mexican Restaurants, with food guaranteed to make “your stomach come out your ass.” (The exact words of my charming boyfriend, under the black umbrella.)

Yee-haw! You should see the tight studded cowgirl t-shirt.

I never thought it was possible for a blue-stater to love a red state this much...

Did you shoot any rifles? There are lots of stores out west that will rent you guns and sell you the ammo. Yee Haw! Heh.

..make your stomach come out your ass...

Stick to your foie gras crostini with truffled apples, you pansy, gringo northerners!!

In all seriousness, though, I'll bet the food was pretty good if you gave it a chance -- RoboDump style aftermath notwithstanding -- I've found the grub to be one of Texas' few redeeming qualities. (And I have license to complain because I lived there for 12 years or so.)

Ooh, did you get to eat at the Salt Lick? Not sure if you were anywhere near Dallas, but that place is legendary. Nice boots!!

Too funny!! I have 3 pairs of Justin's left over from the waaay early 90's, a great indigo blue pair, chocolate brown and black, still in great shape!

We didn't make it to the Salt Lick, or any other suggestions, unfortionately. It was RAINY and COLD the whole weekend, making it all to easy to stay in and (cough) get lots of extra sleep.

And Ari, how did I just KNOW you had a pair in Indigo. You rock.

If anyone is in or around the Dallas area and looking for boots, I can't reccommend the Justin store (there are four in a cluster, actually) in the town named Justin (about 20 minutes north of Fort Worth) for boots at least half price. Well worth the effort.

I've now been near Houston for 10 months and one of my favorite things to do in Houston is EAT!

Four restaurants that I highly recommend in Houston: Casa Elena for the Nachos, Barbeque Inn for the stuffed crab (weird place for stuffed crab, I admit), The Mason Jar for Artichokes with Curry Sauce (this may be the best on the list), and any shelfish in Guido's (sp?) in Galveston.

So far, I've only made it to Casa Elana.

BTW: I love your site! Congratulations and if I see a guestbook, I'll be sure to sign it!
