auditioned but rejected titles for a “we got engaged!” post:

  • Evidence that some men will buy the cow even if they’re getting the milk for free.
  • Winter, be damned. I’m never wearing gloves again.
  • Things I will say to the next person that has the bad form to ask if Alex and I are getting engaged, #11: What, you didn’t hear the news? My mother didn’t call you?
  • Before you ask and are forced to duck flying objects, a thirty-day moratorium has been placed on all “w”-word conversations.
  • Tracy and Hepburn, now with a happy ending!
  • If Weight Watchers tells me I gained weight in Paris (100% inevitable), I’m blaming my new bling.
  • Alex is attempting to make an honest woman out of me. Wish the dear boy luck.
  • Meet the world’s newest Bridezilla.

Man, that was quick: your google ads are for engagement rings.

Congrats to you & Alex. I look forward to the 3000-word feature in the Times' Vows section.

3 | Uch | December 20, 2004 07:54 PM

Yay! Congratulations!

4 | Tiff | December 20, 2004 08:17 PM

Beautiful! Congratulations and I can't wait to read about THIS stage of the relationship.

When do we see the photos of the ring?

5 | Kimberlee | December 20, 2004 08:23 PM

Yay! Congrats!! Love the pics too. Couldn't be happier for you both...

6 | carrster | December 20, 2004 08:25 PM

So finally - lets forget about that article and focus on the important things... Isn't the internet wonderful? - Congrats

7 | Snowkatz | December 20, 2004 08:32 PM

Sorry again for editing the comment, Snowkatz, but there will be no thunder-stealing by readers smart enough to read my close friends sites :)

Thanks for all the comments - this is SO much fun!

8 | deb | December 20, 2004 08:33 PM

Credit for that must be given to my wife of 5 months who I got hooked on your site via my reading of biz casual. -- Yeah babea -- No intention of thunder stealing but the suspense was killing me - Snowkatz

9 | Snowkatz | December 20, 2004 08:44 PM

Congratulations! I'm very happy for you both.

10 | girl | December 20, 2004 08:52 PM

12 | Frankenstein | December 20, 2004 09:07 PM

I TOTALLY Called it! Congrats again. And I will post your bling to my site soon--cuz I may just figure out how my new MAC works really soon!

13 | Jocelyn | December 20, 2004 09:46 PM

AHHHHHH! Congrats!!!

14 | Maura | December 20, 2004 09:55 PM

Whew...finally. Do you know how hard it is to keep a secret? Well, uh, yeah, I know I didn't keep it that well, but we can ignore that, right? :-)

15 | Howard | December 20, 2004 10:14 PM

Félicitations!

I hate you just a little bit more now but only cause I'm jealous that you live in NY, have a fiancé with the common sense to propose in Paris and ... you've been to Paris.

If you ever meet Bono, you're so off my BlogRoll.

16 | Colleen | December 20, 2004 10:31 PM

Honey, your HTML validates. I get to be jealous, too!

17 | deb | December 20, 2004 10:33 PM

Mazel tov to you both! Being engaged is a blast (says she with almost 4 months experience at it now). And Deb, you must head on over to http://kvetch.indiebride.com (and stay away from the Knot, which will only annoy the bejeezus out of you and send you screaming to Vegas).

18 | mad | December 20, 2004 10:44 PM

Looks like I picked a good time to start reading your blog! Congrats to the both of you!

19 | Danica | December 20, 2004 10:58 PM

An additional comment:

Someone mentioned the google ads that showed up on your site being for engagement type stuff. I just saw one entitled "Get him back: 4 easy steps to winning back the love of your life!" Right then.

20 | Danica | December 20, 2004 11:02 PM

Hey Deb and Alex,

Had been reading both your blogs and am so so happy for you. Wishing you both the very best of luck and looking forward to reading about your wedding preparations.

Cheers,

21 | Jigsaw | December 20, 2004 11:55 PM

So thrilled for you and Alex! (And Statler and Waldorf, of course...) Enjoy yourself, and come home soon so you can blind the blogosphere with your bling.

22 | Esther | December 21, 2004 01:04 AM

Wow, congrats!

23 | Jeremy Zawodny | December 21, 2004 01:34 AM

Oh my God! Give the details already...PLEASE! And we need a picture of the bling!

24 | Tree | December 21, 2004 02:49 AM

27 | Li | December 21, 2004 09:11 AM

Congratulations! Where are the pictures of the bling?

28 | corie | December 21, 2004 09:20 AM

Thank you so much - you guys are just extending my state of Cloud 9!

There will be no ring pictures. I can't - it's just tacky. Even by my, admittedly low, standards. My darling friend Jocelyn, however, will I'm certain have no issues sharing, as soon as she learns how to turn on her new blingin' and sparkly Mac.

29 | deb | December 21, 2004 09:30 AM

i may not have time to go to culinary school, work full time AND maintain my school blog, but I can take a second and wish you a hearty MAZEL TOV! I wish you both all the best.

30 | andrea | December 21, 2004 09:57 AM

awww, congrats Deb.

and a Paris proposal, to boot.

it just doesn't get much more romantic than that, now does it?

31 | Darling | December 21, 2004 10:18 AM

Awww.. congratulations. I wish you all the happiness in the world.

32 | Charlie Gordon | December 21, 2004 10:23 AM

Happy beginnings, to both of you!

34 | Jennifer | December 21, 2004 10:50 AM

CONGRATS!

And also on the mention in the NYTimes Magazine! When I saw you and dooce there (two of my favorite blogs) I did a little happy dance. In fact, I might say I felt a little personal pride, which (I am well aware) is wack. Yay Smitten!

35 | wowkate | December 21, 2004 11:16 AM

Congratulations! I've been following your blog for awhile and have to say, although I disagree with the statement "Meet the newest Bridezilla", I think you'll be one of the coolest Bridezillas ever.

36 | Jennifer | December 21, 2004 11:59 AM

My first blog comment ever is in honor of you two--Congrats!!! So exciting...

48 | mingaling | December 21, 2004 06:42 PM

OH WOW.

Congratulations!!!! That's so...random...although you went to Paris, so we should have at least suspected...a little.

49 | Natali | December 21, 2004 07:48 PM

53 | ben | December 22, 2004 02:02 AM

Been following the saga of Smitten for a long time now, but I'm busting out the first comment in honor of the impending nuptials. Kudos to Alex for picking the best proposal site ever and kudos to Deb for taking us along for the whole ride in such a charming manner…Mazel Tov to the both of you! Wow, it must feel amazing to have both of your Jewish mothers happy at last. ^_~

54 | Amy | December 22, 2004 02:41 AM

Now you just have to deal with the "When are you getting married?" questions. (See Miama Rhapsody for details)
