meet our new digs.

We’ll kind of miss our firstborn child, whom we had to promise to the Real Estate Gods of This Slumlorded City to secure the pad, but we still feel that it was worth it, as he/she probably wasn’t going to come equipped with TWO skylights and, count ‘em, 1, 2, 3, 4, FIVE closets, anyhow.

However, we all know the REAL reason I love our new place is that it is barely a hop, skip, or jump from one of New York's best cupcake joints. Paired with the fourth floor walk-up, I can't remember a time when my priorities were in better order.

Does this mean no Syracuse?

2 | Maura | February 10, 2005 12:42 AM

Hahaha the adwords are about diaper bags.

3 | Maura | February 10, 2005 12:43 AM

Maura - First our parents, and now Adwords too?! AAAAHH.

5 | deb | February 10, 2005 07:03 AM

Congratulations on every. little. thing. It's all too too fabulous. And soooooo deserved. Report back on cupcakes.

6 | otterkat | February 10, 2005 07:25 AM

May you live and long and happy life in your world - the one where you have FIVE closets in Manhattan?!?!? Congrats on all the good stuff going on lately! Now, you prefer Billy's over Magnolia, right? Cause I'm in charge of cake for a birthday party next Friday...

7 | mathematician | February 10, 2005 09:36 AM

Ooooh! Not fair - you have parents that read Ayn Rand AND pretty wood floors!

8 | adrianne | February 10, 2005 09:36 AM

mathematician - As I have just ordered a birthday cake for this weekend from Billy's, just be warned that their bday layers cakes are ASTRONOMICALLY expensive. Try the UNBELIEVABLE and much less $ icebox cake, and order early.

Oh, it is just too early in the morning to be dreaming about icebox cake. HELP!

9 | deb | February 10, 2005 09:42 AM

Wow, I remember you mentioned skylites, but hardwood floors and five closets 80

I'm in shock, and very happy for you!

Have fun in the new job, too.

10 | Mathieu | February 10, 2005 09:47 AM

Please tell me you can have the elusive real couch in this one???

Looks great - congrats!

11 | Wicked H | February 10, 2005 09:49 AM

It has yet to be seen whether the afore-much-mentioned sofa will fit up the stairs, but it looks more roomy. This will be very exciting as we can actually FIT more than one piece of furniture comfortably in the living room.

Plus, can't you see me going to town in this adorable little laboratory?

12 | deb | February 10, 2005 09:58 AM

Be it hereby known that Smitten's comment #5 ("...First our parents...")does not apply to this parent. Of course there are three others.....

13 | SantaDad | February 10, 2005 09:59 AM

I am always astounded by difference in size by NYC standards.

14 | mingaling | February 10, 2005 10:05 AM

awesome

15 | Master Foley | February 10, 2005 10:08 AM

mingaling - And price. Conversation with a Syracuse real estate agent was like, "You pay WHAT?" "And you have to walk up STAIRS?" "And you don't get a PARKING SPACE?" and "You can't FIT A SOFA up the stairs?" Hee. I enjoyed traumatizing her.

16 | deb | February 10, 2005 10:20 AM

Another YAAY!!
Things seem to be going so right for you, lady! You deserve it! :D

17 | C | February 10, 2005 10:24 AM

just wanted to say i really enjoy reading your blog :) i know i should be reading the ny times with my morning coffee but...

18 | jinius | February 10, 2005 10:51 AM

Parking spaces and elevators are why places like Syracuse have such obesity problems! Rock on with your cupcakes and your walkup workout.

19 | sarah | February 10, 2005 11:05 AM

sarah, you we're comment number #5000 here at smitten. I hope you remember to thank all the little people. :)

20 | deb | February 10, 2005 11:30 AM

The new place looks nice! Post pictures once you're in and everything's arranged. I love to see how stylish people put their homes together.

21 | Bond Girl | February 10, 2005 11:38 AM

Stylish people? I'll see if I can find some. :)

22 | deb | February 10, 2005 12:07 PM

looks like a great place. only maybe two of those would actually qualify as closets here in denver though.

23 | hubs | February 10, 2005 12:25 PM

living room? you'll have a living room? what's that?

24 | corie | February 10, 2005 12:36 PM

Fourth floor walk-up? You and Alex are going to have calves of steel by the time you get married.

25 | Mindwalker | February 10, 2005 01:45 PM

Yep, I'm traumatized with your realtor. Your kitchen can fit INSIDE my closet. But don't worry, my couch wouldn't fit through the stairs either. Luckily we could drive out back and haul it through the walk-out basement door.

26 | Katherine | February 10, 2005 02:10 PM

Very nice...but I'm pretty sure that closet #3 is technically a pantry.

27 | Coye | February 10, 2005 02:10 PM

Yes, it is, and it is one of the first apartment I have ever seen in NYC with one. What shall we fill it with? Dried beans? Endless spices? A heat lamp for special plants?

Oh, my!

28 | deb | February 10, 2005 02:18 PM

Walk up? What's that? (kidding, kidding)

29 | mingaling | February 10, 2005 02:44 PM

Nice apartment. Have fun moving in and unpacking (I know it sounds crazy, but my favorite part of moving is the unpacking and setting up).

30 | Milly | February 10, 2005 02:51 PM

Oh wow I'm so envious!!! The floors! Lookit the floors!!!!

And the skylight... *drool*

31 | muffy | February 10, 2005 03:49 PM

Wow - I don't know how you New Yorkers do it! If I didn't have my full basement, double garage and multitude of closets (obviously I live in the midwest) I don't know where I would put all my crap! I did the studio apt thing in LA and lord knows how I survived that. This way I have room to actually make cupcakes & frost them too!

32 | carrster | February 10, 2005 04:40 PM

Gah! Tell me before you link me, I would have updated the ol' site.

congrats on all the changes in your life..

33 | Ms. Koolaid | February 10, 2005 04:56 PM

Ooooohhhhhh!!!!! Aaaaahhhh!!!! As a fellow Manhattanite I bow down to your 5 (!) closets and skylights. Just think - if you weren't walking up to the 4th floor you wouldn't have the fab skylights. Great apartment!

I am actually moving next week and called your movers (that you posted about). They seem great!
Good luck with your move.

34 | Christina | February 10, 2005 06:00 PM

I can't wait for the housewarming!

And you shuld hang a plant in that skylight!

ciao

35 | jocelyn | February 10, 2005 08:32 PM

near the best cupcakes you say? ha! don't say that until you've hauled out to redhook and tried one of mine! (congratulations on the new place!!!)

36 | anna | February 10, 2005 08:37 PM

number 5000! do i get a free doughnut or something?
before moving in, be sure to say the manhattanite's prayer for reasonable neighbors, a great sushi place that delivers, and a true lack of rodent visitors.
