brat

(Er, pictures are a little... big. Will resize shortly.)

While Alex’s new job is going extraordinarily well, I am a bit pouty and irrational as he’s had to travel two days a week to Chicago since it began. It doesn’t mean I’m not making the most of it, taking in ridiculous things like Ruth Reichl and Liz Smith at the 92nd Street Y on Wednesday night, something I couldn’t convince another living soul besides my mother (hi, mom!) is a good time, and shopping until my legs nearly stormed home in fatigued protest the Tuesday before ($35 sofriggincute sundress from Old Navy – woo woo!). I am also doing things like pouncing on him the second he gets home late Wednesday nights with “what did you get me? Huh? Huh?” The first week, it was a mug that said “Chicago” on it. (I think he forgot that when I had to go to Chicago for work shortly after we started dating, I too was stumped for gift ideas and bought him nearly the same one. Great minds, folks…) This week, however, I didn’t even have a chance to be bratty because when I got home, thirty-six long stemmed roses had already magically appeared on the counter.

As it turns out, he won’t have to travel the next two weeks. “Aren’t you happy? Aren’t you excited, baby?” he said. “Yeah, totally, of course…” I said dismissively. “Hey, does this mean I don’t get any more flowers?”

I think when he got you the mug he was thinking 'revenge'...

OMG, I love Ruth Reichl too!!! Have you read her new book yet? She is so funny!

I think I'm going to get it tonight, though I hate hardcover and might instead get Comfort Me With Apples. I meant to review the whole discussion, and how I had intended to roll my eyes every time Liz Smith spoke, but she turned out to be pretty funny for an old windbag. I was going to stay and buy a book for her to sign (Reichl, that is) but arrogantly decided that she can sign it one day when she hires me. Good to have goals, non?

The flowers are gorgeous. You're about to convince me to look for a trade-up on the boyfriend front! The current one has never given me more than 12 at a time (roses, people, roses!).

And no complaints here about the pictures being big. One of them is gracing my desktop as we speak.

Wow. He got you some of my favorites - I love the corally-orange ones. So beautiful!

Lucky girl...

I am trying to convince my guy that flowers are a really GOOD thing to get me. :-p No luck yet - but my birthday is coming up.
