31 days to go: veiled fury

The veil arrived yesterday morning in my cubicle via the package room. I’m not sure there are words enough to describe what a hideous mood I have been in this last week, culminating (let’s hope) in yesterday’s barely muffled rage… but more about that later.

I opened the box and almost started crying. I hated it. It was poofy and fluffy and oh my god, please don’t make me start running around trying to find a veil for under $300 again that doesn’t make me look like I’m wearing a tutu on my head! I left it on the filing cabinet and tried to forget about it, until three of my female coworkers were dishing in my “office” after yoga class and spotted it.

“Is that your veil?!”
“I hate it.”
“Oh, let’s see it!”
“Try it on for us!”
“I don’t like it. I feel silly.”
“Come on! We’ll try it on then!”

And so, at 3:30 PM in my cubicle by the window, in view of nearly the whole office, we played dress up. Girls in flip flops, denim, and tank tops accessorized with ribbon-edged tulle, their enthusiasm contagious, and I swear, for the first time in what felt like a year, I smiled. And got carried away, showing them pictures of my dress and the gardens at WeddingLand. Everyone fussed and cooed and complimented and it was so. girly. and so. typical. and, really, precisely what I needed.

Until I got home and tried the thing on again and again and again and couldn’t get it right. Why won’t this work for me? and How am I supposed to know how to wear this thing? and Waaah! I'm no good at being a bride! But, in the nick of time, just seconds before I threw the hated cluster of mesh out the window, Ang arrived – “It goes like this!” – and had the thing in place in seconds.

Turns out, it really doesn’t look so bad.

It's the aqua/green eyes that make it work. You'll have to get matching contact lenses to complete your apparel. Hmmm, maybe you should change the color of the bridesmaid's dresses? I can probably get another tie and vest. :-)

Isn't it so sad and annoying to find out inside you're such a girlie-girl sometimes? I know the wedding brought it out in me in spades. I hated it. But I loved it.

I read all the time, but have never posted - btu i HAD to now. I'm getting married halloween weekend and was determined not to hock my lil apartment for a veil. (um, what? its just a VEIL) And yet i of course, wanted something cool and pretty. I went and visited Leah (http://www.leahc.net) who helped design me an awesoem veil totally within my budget. So, if you're indire straits - I recommend her. Though I have to say, the one you have looks lovely . . . . .

God, let's hear it for barely muffled rage, huh? I've been living in Barely Muffled Rage this entire summer and you know, I'm starting to enjoy the view. Although my neighbors hate me.

Hey, I had the same problem with my veil -- but once I finally tried it on with the dress and with my hair in a rough approximation of what it would look like on My Special Day (TM), it actually looked good. It just didn't go with the micro-kilt and ripped black tank, is all.

WAIT! Isn't The Wedding on the 28th?? Why is Joc saying it's on the 27th? Did something change? I have to go check the invitation.

I have a veil that I'd be willing to sell if you still dislike the one you bought. You can actually see pictures of it on my blog:

Just wanted to add that, originally, I wasn't going to buy a veil but then I tried on this veil in a bridal store in Soho and fell in love with it and had one custom made to nearly the same specifications but when I tried mine on, I was disappointed because it looked different. It grew on me though as yours may with you!
