45 days to go: Obsessive habits of late
- The Only Living Boy In New York. I can’t stop listening to it. Fifteen times a day. It goes in and out and is ten times more harmonized and calm than I feel these days. Heeeeere Iiiiii Aaaaaammm…
- Looking at pictures tagged on Flickr as “Wedding.” Only Alex could explain to you how many hours a day I actually do this. It started out of general curiosity; I wanted ideas, to see some people who actually when through with these broo-ha-has. But then, it became fodder – girls who walked down the aisles with teddy bears, girls with tiaras the size of crowns, grooms forced to wear pink ties to match the bridesmaids dresses – for mockery, only to make myself feel better about the no-tiara, grey ties, and teddy bears only if they’re this one, choices I’d made. But, occasionally I run into pictures of brides so flawless, weddings so stunning, and details so carefully attended to that I start freaking out again, knowing I could never do anything but fall short of this photographable perfection. Still, I can’t stop.
- Watching Holly. As soon as I found her site last week, I read the entire archive. Look! A down-to-earth bride! Her post about shoes, OH, can I commiserate about those awful satin things they expect us to wear! And starting everything new in your life at once, that too! Drowning your fears in wine – aye, aye! Maybe we could talk her into posting once an hour!
- Railing against the price of wedding-related objects. $310 for a 4-foot circle of tulle with a comb in the middle! You have got to be shitting me. Veil? Who needs a veil? I’m this close to opting for silver barrettes - which won’t cost three hundred dollars and I might even use again in my life.
- Looking again and again and again at the pictures my best friend sent me from my last dress fitting. I can’t believe that’s me in there. Doesn't anyone else think I look like I’m playing dress-up? I don’t know these girls… the ones that step into these dresses and think, yes, I was made for this; this is my moment… I just look freaked out.

Damnit, now I have that song stuck in my head. And I'm not even in New York right now.

I will MAKE your veil. Seriously. I borrowed a Vera Wang veil from a coworker--nothing but $1.00/yd tulle and cheap little comb. She paid $370 for it. Shame on her--she works in the fashion industry and she knows better.

I got my affordable veil here: www.veilsalamode.com and it looks smashing. As good as tulle on a comb can look. Where did that concept come from? Such silliness.

oooooooh! i am a compulsive flickr/wedding tag stalker too! such relief to know i'm not alone. there are some freaky weddings out there, don't you reckon? but it's the perfectly-executed ones that send you into a panic :)

Dude, you do NOT need a veil. Go veil-less! Wear barrettes or a sparkly headband or something that feels like you!

Thanks for introducing us to Holly, her site is adorable. I'm not even getting married and I love it.

Thanks for the link!! I can't believe she's going to Croatia for a Honeymoon! That's so cool.
Made me feel really frivolous wanting a beach villa honeymoon dealy but cool nonetheless!

Far too late to comment, but the Everything But The Girl version blows S&G away. And I *love* S&G...
