blizzy with it*

I talked Alex into going to Central Park today by telling him the weather report said the blizzard was supposed to stop blizzard-ing [yes, Dups, I “verbed” that again!] within the hour. It did! But, it also did not. Or, even the hour after that. (Or technically, until the minute we returned to our apartment, at which point I was to absorbed in the creation of Baileys Hot Cocoa to care.)
The park was packed with snow-shoers, cross-country skiers, sledders, and snowsuit-clad mini-people. Seriously, when did New Yorkers get so jocular? I think it must be the secondary effects of the Winter Olympics, which I have shamelessly taken in at least ten hours of since Friday night.
Of interest, today is Darwin’s birthday, and some folks in (and out, apparently) the park seemed intent upon celebrating his life’s work, from the ones who sledded and snowboarded down flights of concrete stairs (the snowboarder broke his in half), to your humble host, who threw her blue-jean clad rump upon the mercy of a 20-inch deep swath of snow to make a snow angel. I don’t think I need to tell you how comfortably that worked out.

* Or, a fair indication of the clichés to come.

I think this is your best photo set yet. SO pretty.
Wish I'd had a chance to enjoy the snow like those snow tubers today - or even as you did with the snow angel.
I shoveled it.
And in the aftermath, I nap.
I just finished my 2nd nap of the day - and it's just after 6 p.m.

How stunning. It was so hot and humid last night my boyfriend and I couldn't snuggle without getting sweaty in under a minute. All that snow and ice sure looks just right for the snugglin'.

Not fair! When we get snow like that we have to drive to work in it! I want snow like that on a weekend when there is nowhere I have to be!! My dog would like to frolick! (tho your snow is deeper than he is tall!) NICE snow angel though :)

I can just stare at those wintry photos all day. California sucks.

Neil: The snow is always whiter on the other side of the country! I'd trade with you, except for the ground shakers.

I'm disgustingly jealous! We usually get slammed by snow, and instead we got a measly inch or two (because New York and Philadelphia STOLE IT ALL!)
Have fun and stay warm!

Love the pics. DK and I just started at the snow pelting down (and then swooping up! and then making an eddy! and then down again) Sunday morning and I padded around making waffles and hot chocolate and pots of tea -- all things that say "winter morning" in my household. And then I trudged through the blizzard to go to work and watched it from my windows -- totally obliterated in white. Your snow angels/swing look like a much more enjoyable way to (FINALLY) enjoy some good snow!

this looks like a great deal of fun. i had high aspirations to do it with my boyfriend. but he saw things differently and broke up with me friday night. on the bright side, i got to make crepes for friends and dig a car out of the snow... which was actually a lot of fun.

14 | jocelyn | February 13, 2006 03:43 PM
Hi..I was wondering what kind of camera you have and if you like it. I am in the market for a new one and your pictures are really great. Thanks for the advice!

Thanks so much for all the feedback, people. And just to note, some of your favorites were taken by Alex! (I've got more details on the Flickr pages.)
Kate - Canon EOS Digital Rebel, the generation before the current one. It's super-inexpensive right now and I can't reccommend it enough.
Joc - No b/w setting, but you can do it in iPhoto.
wg - Sorry to hear. His loss, non?
Neil - Day 2, I could use some LA right now. SHIN DEEP IN FROZEN STREET JUICE TONIGHT on 6th Avenue. Boots filled. Bleeech.

I'm so upset that I missed the blizzard. On the bright side, my flight home was not cancelled, and when I got back, my patio had a nearly knee-high amount of perfect white stuff for doggie and me to frolick in. Yay, snow!

Hi Deb--I've never posted a comment, but wanted to tell you that I've just finished reading your entire website (starting from the beginning) and it has been such fun. No I'm not a crazy person, I just have the misfortune of being in a pretty boring job that has large spans of times where I don't have much work to do! Your blog has filled many spaces of empty time! I got married in October 05, so many of your posts mirrored things I was thinking myself or wishing I could say! Congrats on everything, I know it's so much fun.
And I must say, in everything I've read, the funniest post, the one that had me laughing outloud the most, was when you were trying to learn how to roll your Rrrrr's in Russian words. Hilarious.
Ciao, Lauren
