notes from this side of the convex glass

Oh man, I watched a lot of television this week.

  • Paula Deen is making bread pudding with a dozen glazed Krispy Kreme donuts. I bet some cardiologist is sending her a cease and desist order. I forgive her though, because I just love the way she says dill (dee-yill) and olive oil (aw-liv earl). Also, because I bet if you forced me to try it, with threats of violence and all, it might be kinda tasty.

  • I just watched one-eighth of an episode of General Hospital. Was I really addicted to this show for more than five years? OMG Robin Scorpio is back! With a teeny nose ring. So cute!

  • A commercial for “The world’s first Sports Utility Vacuum” by Hoover. Stunning. Horrifying. Does this mean it uses an above-average quantity of nonreplenishable resources but you know, looks really cool?

  • Cowboy/Cowgirl wedding. First time I’ve seen chaps outside Chelsea. On a girl, no less! Best. Wedding Story. Ever.

  • Roll-up pizza! Pita pockets! Frozen breaded shrimp! Please don’t get me started on meals from a box because this is just one of those places in the where communication between me and the rest of the world breaks down. I’ll never get it. Then again, I hear there are people on earth who do not care for chocolate. I’m going back under the covers now.

  • All these women screaming and hysterical with birth pain on A Baby Story are really freaking me out. I mean, how is this supposed to convince me that having a baby is a good idea? What, her epidural wore off? They do that? Oh my god. Back under the covers again!

  • Mmm… Michael Chiarello… grey salt, spice grinder, NapaStyle™. Swoon.

  • What is it with layered hair, heavy eye shadow, swishy dresses, and stilettos on What Not to Wear? Are they trying to make these insecure women into insecure droids?

  • Ina Garten has inspired me to make barbeque sauce. That I do not particularly care for ribs or barbequed chicken is irrelevant. I love this woman and will make anything she does. (Update: BBQ sauce is a-m-a-z-ing. Make it!)

Sadly, this has been edited down from pages of notes. I’m nothing if not productive when oozing boogers. (Haha, I made you read about my boogers!) And mature.

I am very scared of the vaccuum SUV, they probably over consume electricity and Hoover will probably require premium bags but then again, I am also afraid of cleaning!

You watched GH and Robin gets commented on?!?! Dude. I was home sick recently and saw a bit of it as well...

NOAH DRAKE?!?!

And what you see or labor on A Baby Story - ain't no thang. That's the really scary part.

aw come on we need a link to the cowgirl wedding.

I looked at the TLC website - what a weird site! It's links to "fansites" of their shows, which are basically related sponsored resources and chatrooms. Nothing about the episodes! And they gave me two pop-ups! Bad Web 1.0 site, bad!

You'll just have to believe me that the cowgirl/cowboy couple was the cutest.

Hope you feel better soon. Seems I have contracted this same exotic virus and am forced to sit home and comment.
And, I don't like chocolate but that just means more for those who do.

By the way, in an effort to cook for me, the hub burnt something in one of my favourite steel pans... do you have an tricks for removing the grime? So far nothing we've tried actually works and I refuse to allow him to bring paint thinner in from the work bench.

I really need to stop taking cold medicine.

I made a half-recipe of what I found here: http://www.recipezaar.com/123417. I noticed on the Food Network program she added some lime zest and orange juice to the sauce; I'm sure either or both additions would be awesome.

Just as disturbing as the sport utility vacuum is to you, for me the most vile commercial ever is the one for some new drug which uses a doctor and group of med students on rounds to sing all of its wonderful characteristics. It made me want to vomit.

I live in the birthplace of Krispy Kreme (along with Hanes underwear and RJR) ... donuts are often a breakfast food around here - especially at church, along with sausage and country-ham biscuits.

I don't quite talk like Paula Deen, well, I don't think I do, anyway, but I imagine you'd beg to differ.

I remember soap operas... sigh... I used to watch AMC when I lived in the US, now I'm stuck with substandard Aussie style soaps... just bubbles right? I have a vacuum that came with my husband. Marry a man, get a vacuum and a set of really great steak knives(!). The vacuum is so old they don't make bags for it anymore so I have to improvise with larger ones and duct tape (hey the stuff really works!). Get a new vacuum? But I like this one!! Krispy Kremes, JUST came to AU, people are flocking to them, loving them OR hating them. There seems to be no in between! I only like them fresh off the press.

And chocolate... makes the world go round mate (said in my best Aussie accent!)

My OB made me promise not to watch any sort of TLC baby programming throughout these 9 months. I'm sure it's definitely for my own good. ;)

I wanted to share my site with you, but couldn't find a place to send it to you privately. I'd like to do that before making it public, I'd never use someone else's blog to advertise my own. How do you get readers?

16 | Shelly | March 7, 2006 07:06 AM

Ha! I wrote about the Krispy Kreme bread pudding too! I was drooling.

ROFL!! I've thought the same thing about Paula Deen (cardiologist and the C&D order). But she is just so cute. I live in Oklahoma and even to me, her "dee-ill" just makes me smile. The best part is that she IS NOT RACHAEL RAY.
