the great bake

only in Brighton babyThings I learned from the leather-skinned old folks next to us on the beach today:

  • Those kids are not being careful with that ball and they're going to hit someone and the lifeguard just turns the other cheek.
  • We're all on medicine which says they shouldn't go in the sun but we don't know anyone over 70 who isn't on some medicine that tells them not to do something they enjoy and it would be a shame to miss such a nice day.
  • Weren't we all in love once?
  • They are never going to Vegas again over 4th of July weekend.
  • Frank Sinatra's pianist died.
  • We all look good for our ages.

Things I saw on the beach today that I'm just going to admit right here that I never wish to see again and also, when did bare ass become de rigueur in public:

  • A Russian woman who had to be at least 65 in a thong bikini.
  • A middle-aged Asian man in a thong Speedo.
  • A girl with her parents in a thong bikini who couldn't have been a day over 16.
  • A man with shorts so low, he was about one inch from dropping trou, I'm talking both the beginning and end of the happy trail in plain site here, folks.
  • Myself making this face.

Isn't it funny how freckles stand out when you get in the sun for a while? I always have some on my face, but after a day at the beach I look like I'm just one big mass of polka dots. Nice to see that I'm not alone! Thank god they mellow out once the burn sets in for good...

go to brighton early - 7 or 8 am early. yo'll see all the russians doing their morning exercise routines.

I love the old dudes and their exercize routines! They're so cute.

Hands down, there is no place more fun to people-watch than Brighton.

(And it's also funny, considering all that I saw, that I actually worried for a moment that morning my bathing suit top was too low. Then I remember where I was going and how I'd likely be the most covered up.)

this post reminds me of the days when i used to use the local gym locker room - old russian women walking around naked when they really shouldnt be... eek needless to say I don't use the women's locker room anymore.
Oooh and the men in spandex tights as i did my crunches... now i just shut my eyes and listen to my ipod

That's what you get when you don't go to the beach in CT!

Emily, same thing happens to me! We are not monsters (or at least, not unique monsters ;))
Using extreme sun protection helps a lot. But I kinda like freckles... I think you should embrace them :)

Hey I found this great website. It's like a reality TV show. If you have a great smile you should enter to win. If you don't enter your own picture vote on the people that have entered.

You should check out the beaches in Europe...even as laid-back as I tend to be, there are some sights no one should see!

next up: the russian baths on 9th street. please report back soon.

Looks like the only difference between the beach in Brighton & the beach in CT is that your underdressed old people are Russian and not Canadian. Then again, there's the overabundance of severely underdressed 12 year olds...I don't think they eat.
